2020 & Beyond SSA Wage Base Increase Estimates

The SSA is anticipating a Wage Base Increase for 2020 estimated from $132,900 to $136,800. Below are the SSA projections to the Wage Base through 2028:

  • 2019 — $132,900
  • 2020— $136,800
  • 2021 — $142,200
  • 2022 — $149,100
  • 2023 — $155,700
  • 2024 — $162,300
  • 2025 — $168,900
  • 2026 — $175,800
  • 2027 — $183,300
  • 2028 — $191,100

The final number for 2020 is expected to be announced in October of 2019.

SSA Mismatch Letters March 2019.

As of March 2019 the SSA has resumed sending “no match” letters to employers. These letters will be sent to employers who file W-2(s) that contain name and social security number mismatches. Mismatches may occur because:

  • Typographical errors.
  • Unreported name changes.
  • Inaccurate or incomplete employer records.

The SSA began sending letters out to employers in 1993, but was then suspended in 2012 under the Obama administration.  Below are sample letters and the original communication from the SSA.
